I’m back…again. It’s been a interesting few months with my transition into freelancing. I am doing some regular contributor and temp work and it’s all coming together nicely. It hasn’t been easy, but I appreciate some of the perks of working from home.
But, I know that there is a major area in my personal life that needs improvement. I took some time this morning to sit down and reflect on my daily routines. I thought about how so much time is spent constantly thinking about my next move and what happened earlier in the day/week instead of being fully present in the current moment. Or, how I am half paying attention to a conversation because I am checking an email or absorbed in some other activity. I know I’m not alone.
So, I am starting a mindfulness challenge on Sunday (09/30) and I hope some of you join me. Each day, I am going to make it a point to focus solely on the present moment. If I am cooking dinner, then I am going to engage myself in the process of cutting veggies and seasoning meat. If I am with the kids, then I am going to be fully available with my phone out of reach. And, if I am working on an article, then I am going to put my energy into finishing that piece instead of pre-worrying about the next one.
I plan on prepping for this life shift over the next few days by immersing myself in positive reading material, meditation, and a short list of things that I want to get out of this experience. I may not be able to be completely present at every single moment of the day and at times I will get distracted and that’s okay. I’m human. But I believe there will be more peace, clarity, and focus if I make the effort. I am going to spend 21 days documenting the process on my blog (because I miss just writing for own enjoyment) and seeing how this new habit impacts my life.
