Let Rihanna Be Rihanna

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have heard about Rihanna and her recent Instagram takeover. Rihanna is the current covergirl for the French magazine Lui, and she appeared on the cover in coral bottoms, a hat, and completely topless. The social media maven decided to post a few of her pictures on Instagram and they spread like wildfire before the social media site temporarily shut her account down. She removed the photos, but everyone is still buzzing about the Barbadian beauty’s breasts.

As usual, there are varying opinions on her magazine spread. Some people feel as though she is “taking it too far” and being a “poor role model”. Others are celebrating her open sexuality. And some people could care less.

Here is my take on it. Rihanna has stated several times that she is not interested in being your child’s role model. So, I am not sure why people continue to expect her to act like she is on the Disney channel. As a parent, I believe we need to recognize our true power and influence over our children’s lives. Let’s make it clear to our kids that celebrities have some good qualities and work ethics, but many of them are not designed to be role models. They provide entertainment, plain and simple. Rihanna is a grown woman making her own decisions. Rihanna doesn’t raise my daughter, I do.

She is on the cover of a French magazine. Nudity is not a big deal in France. And, this particular magazine is historically an adult magazine. Rihanna is from Barbados and sexuality is not a big issue there either. In this case, if their views don’t align with yours, then don’t look at the pictures. **hey, haven’t we seen her breasts prior to this??

I am the same age as Rihanna. Would I do the magazine cover? Nope, but I am a non-famous person who has breastfed two kids. No one wants to see these boobs! 🙂
